By air

Frankfurt Airport is a hub for numerous airlines. From the Frankfurt Airport an Intercity Express (ICE) train leaves at least once in a hour to Mannheim (duration about 32 minutes).

By rail and public transport

Mannheim's main train station is a well-connected ICE junction. Directly in front of the main station, bus lines 60 and 65 will take you to the bus stop "Mensa am Schloss", only a two-minute walk from GESIS. Tram lines 1, 5/5a as well as 15 will take you to the stop "Schloss", from where it is about a five-minute walk to GESIS. You can find timetable information here.

Opposite the main station you will also find a VRN-Nextbike rental station. Here you can borrow a Nextbike via app. A drop-off station is right next to GESIS square B6 at the building of the Faculty of Social Sciences of the University of Mannheim in A5. It's another minute's walk from here.

Around the main station you will also usually find e-scooters from the companies Bird, Bolt and Tier. By bike, scooter or even on foot, the largely traffic-calmed path behind the Mannheim Castle to GESIS is ideal.

By car

You can reach us by car via the A6, Mannheim Mitte exit. At the planetarium, follow the sign to the left towards the university. Since Mannheim is currently undergoing further development, especially in the city center, and bicycle lanes and traffic calming measures are being created, as well as road renewals, we recommend the use of a navigation app.

We recommend the underground car park under the cafeteria or underground car park D5 Reiss-Museum.

Mannheim hosts numerous trade fairs and congresses. The hotels in Mannheim then tend to be fully booked at very early times. If you need accommodation, we strongly recommend to book directly after your registration.

Mannheim is a city in southwestern Germany. With approximately 315,000 inhabitants, it is the third-largest city in Baden-Württemberg, after Stuttgart and Karlsruhe.

Mannheim is located at the confluence of the Rhine and the Neckar in the northwestern corner of Baden-Württemberg. The Rhine separates Mannheim from the city of Ludwigshafen, just to the west of it in Rhineland-Palatinate, and the border of Baden-Württemberg with Hesse is just to the north. Mannheim is downstream along the Neckar from the city of Heidelberg.

Mannheim is unusual among German cities in that its streets and avenues are laid out in a grid pattern, leading to its nickname "die Quadratestadt" ("city of the squares"). The eighteenth century Mannheim Palace, former home of the Prince-elector of the Palatinate, now houses the University of Mannheim.

Air

Cologne/Bonn Airport is a hub for numerous low-cost carriers. Cologne is also within less than an hour's reach to Frankfurt/Main and Düsseldorf airports. There are good connections (every 10 to 20 minutes) between Cologne airport and Cologne central station, and the travel time is only 15 minutes. The venue can be reached by foot within five minutes.

Rail

High-speed trains offer smooth connections between many German and European cities and Cologne. The high-speed Thalys train connects the city with Brussels (1:47) and Paris (3:14); the ICE directly connects Amsterdam and Utrecht with Cologne in 2:38 and 2:13 respectively. There are also check times and connections provided.

Cologne central station is located in the city centre and the venue can be reached by foot within five minutes. Leave the building at Cologne main station toward the Cologne Cathedral. Go to the right towards the street "An den Dominikanern" and keep straight on. You'll cross the streets "Marzellenstraße", "Postprivatstraße" and "Stolkgasse". The street "An den Dominikanern" changes now over in the street "Unter Sachsenhausen". Keep straight on and you'll see righthanded at the corner "Tunisstraße/Unter Sachsenhausen" the GESIS building.

Intercity Bus

The bus station is located in the centre of Cologne next to the central train station. Travelling by bus is often cheaper than travelling by train. Connections are especially good between Eastern European cities and Cologne. The venue can be reached by foot within five minutes.

Car

GESIS can be reached via Autobahn A1, A3, A4, A57, A59 and A555. Finding a parking place free of charge and close to the venue may be rather difficult. However, there are numerous public car parks (chargeable) within short walking distance of the venue: "Börsenplatz"/Kardinal-Frings-Str., "Maternushaus"/Auf dem Hunnenrücken.

Cologne hosts numerous international trade fairs. The hotels in Cologne then tend to be fully booked at very early times. If you need accommodation, we strongly recommend to book as soon as possible.

Cologne is centrally located in the west of the Federal Republic of Germany and right in the heart of Europe. Entering Germany is facilitated by easy access regulations for most visitors.

Founded more than 2000 years ago, Cologne is one of Central Europe’s oldest cities. With more than one million inhabitants it is Germany's fourth largest city. People from 181 countries with more than 250 cultural backgrounds add to a liberal and multicultural atmosphere.

Cologne hosts thirteen public and private universities. Its 72,000 students make it the most populous and also popular university town in Germany. The University of Cologne, partner of GESIS, and the University of Applied Sciences are the two largest of these institutions.

36 museums, more than 120 art galleries, 200 music ensembles, 60 theatres and numerous international festivals make Cologne one of Europe's leading cities for art and culture. The Roman heritage, a captivating array of twelve Romanesque churches, the Cologne Cathedral (UNESCO World Heritage) and many other historic sites hold something for every taste – and of course the "Kölsch" both as idiom and local brew (we will offer a room in a typical Cologne brewery for your networking and leisure) complete what the city is most proud of: Cologne is a feeling!
